Case Study:  Tampico

Challenge:

Tampico, a Chicago-based leading global producer of fruit beverages, wanted to create a clear package for its new children’s juice beverage that would reduce manufacturing costs while allowing it to increase juice content without using preservatives.

Solution:

Working with Braskem, the largest petrochemical company in Latin America, and Packpet, a Brazilian converter, Milliken tapped into findings from their recent developments using ISBM for cPP. They then created 250 ml hot-filled bottles with a unique Tampico design and name.

Under hot-fill conditions, the bottles did not distort, offering more efficient cycle times and enhanced rigidity, making cPP a viable option to the more costly PET.

Result:

A bottle that is visually similar to PET with clarity that shows the true color of the beverage, enhancing its appeal. The clarified PP bottle created through this new approach to ISBM enabled Tampico to create the packaging at a lower cost while adding value to the brand.
